Lucid Air Dream Edition

Lucid Air Dream Edition – The 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition R is an electric luxury sedan with 933 horsepower per charge and 481-520 EPA certified mileage. I have seen the latter with my own eyes. example? Not really, but you should keep reading. There’s an Air Dream Edition P (P for Performance, R for Range) with 111 horsepower and a range of 451-471 mph. Now get this – they cost the same. Your Pick: Want an EV with nearly 100 horsepower and a sleeker look than the Tesla Model S Plaid? Or do you want a car that makes more horsepower than any Lamborghini has ever produced, beats the Tesla Model S long range at its own game by more than 100 miles, and puts the concept of stress out to pasture? I can’t answer that question because I’ve only driven the Lucid Air Dream Edition R. But, as I’m not the first person on Lucid’s payroll, I’ve got a lot to drive the air.

As an organization, we’ve written almost everything there is to write about Lucid Air without ever pulling back from the wheel. Here are the big picture points I gleaned after spending two days driving the Lucid luxury EV.

Lucid’s CEO/CTO is a Welshman named Peter Rawlinson, who came to our car wearing racing shoes. He was previously the chief engineer of Lotus as well as the chief engineer of the Tesla Model S Rawlinson, as well as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Lotus Drive. He strongly feels that the key to electric cars is to simplify their components. The original Tesla Model SP 85 rear-drive unit weighed 295 pounds and produced about 416 horsepower, with a power density of 1.41 horsepower per pound. Air uses the same engine front and rear; Each weighs 163 kilograms, but can generate 670 horsepower (and at 20,000 rpm) for 4.11 horsepower per pound. It’s almost three times better. Also, unlike Tesla, Lucid has gone to the trouble of putting the right interior on their car.

Lucid Air Is Must Have Coolness For Internet Billionaires

The 2022 Lucid Air looks great, especially when equipped with Eureka Gold. The stainless steel roof brings a bit of DeLorean nostalgia, and the overall effect seems to be a reworked Citroën DS.

. Some people have criticized the design for being too simple, but there is a purposeful future in its physical form. Lucid will initially only air in black, white or gold. I have seen the air in a deep dark burgundy color and it looks great. Perhaps Lucid’s first car is not well-defined in two aspects, but in terms of physical appearance it is unique, if not spectacular.

The interior is a completely different matter. Wow. Every Tesla is shipped with an unfinished interior from day one, not only does Lucid create a stunning luxury car cabin, but it also cleverly avoids the screens that mar the beauty of cars like the Mercedes EQS.

In terms of screens, Lucid has done a good job of distinguishing between the Model S and the EQS, the other two large electric sedans currently available. The three screens don’t dominate the cabin like their Tesla and Mercedes counterparts. The rest of the 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition R is filled with amazing materials: wood, leather, steel, Alcantara, quality plastic and even linen-like fabric. It’s not just a great interior for an electric car – it’s one of the most beautiful interiors in the automotive world. There are also physical controls for fan speed, temperature, volume and dome light. My favorite part is the two small Bear Republic logos attached to the sides of the front seats. Soft and bright.

Short answer: No. Slightly longer answer: The Lucid Air Dream Edition R reminds me of the Nissan GT-R, specifically the NISMO GT-R. Air performance is a big surprise. You know a car with 966 horsepower goes fast, and I drove the Air around Laguna Seca, so I knew how fast the Air was and how nice the interior was. In fact, I know that Lucid’s claim of 500 miles and more is legit. I thought that the version of Air Dream R would be more than enough to go around the big sweepers, but driving it like 10 Angeles Crest Highway down 10, I realized that I enjoy driving the car around tight corners. The more I stand, the better the lucid air. It comes out of corners like a NISMO GT-R character. The “throttle” pedal unleashes a tsunami that makes full use of the intelligent all-wheel drive system: if you steer to the right more often, the air is mostly on the rear wheel.

The Air Lucid is incredibly quick, agile and has a well-pulled steering wheel. It’s hard to call a sports car over 5,000 pounds (Lucid says about 5,050 pounds), but after experiencing it, it’s hard not to think of the Air Dream R as a luxury four-door, five-passenger. GT-R.  Important: The full production car will be even better because the traction control will not be fully attached and the front suspension will be retuned. The rear of the car is great – planted, properly damped – the front needs a bit more bracing. David Lickfold, Lucid’s director of chassis and vehicle dynamics, says front spring rates will be reduced by 10 percent, the anti-roll bar will be stiffer, and the active dampers will be tweaked before production. Can’t wait.

Here’s another kicker: Lickfold (seemingly unnecessary) was concerned about the road quality on Angeles Crest and suggested I leave the air in Swift mode. Lucid Air models have three driving modes namely Smooth, Swift and Sprint. It limits the milder motors to 670 horsepower and pound-feet, softens the dampers and brake pedal, and removes some weight from the steering wheel. Lickfold says the Swift Mod makes 784 horsepower, and it does it all in a convertible. Sprint full power mode, equal to 933 horses, shock absorbers are installed on additional lightning. Also, Sprint has a battery conditioner similar to the Tesla Plaid, where you sit back and wait for the 6,600 cells to cool or heat up. Our driving time was limited and 784bhp felt like too much, so I left the air in Swift mode.

Imagine my dismay the next day when Emad Dalla, Lucid’s senior director of efficiency and energy technologies, mentioned that the Swift Mode only made 69 percent of the air’s total energy. Lickfold made a mistake and quoted the Lucid Air Dream P model’s 784bhp Swift mode output. That being said, I’m still surprised that the Lucid Air has 75 percent power. (The Swift has more torque than the Smooth.) Here’s the full power enchilada: The Dream Edition R has 670 hp in Smooth and Swift, and 933 hp in Sprint. The Dream Edition P figures to be 804bhp on the Smooth and Swift and 1111 on the Sprint. Torque output in three modes is 670, 738 and 885 lb-ft for the R and 738, 799 and 922 lb-ft for the P. Launch Control in Sprint mode, but maximum torque is 1,025 lb-ft for both. R and P.

Lucid Air First Drive Review: Impressive Performance, Standout Design

Since the Tesla Model S was first introduced, we’ve done our mileage tests like this: The EPA says it has a range of 250 miles, so we’ve driven the car exactly 250 miles. That’s 250 miles in the heat without air conditioning, radio, or lights when needed. It was important when EVs were new and chargers were rare, but these days? Why is suffering necessary? We know most EPA testing is done at 27 miles. Ambient temperature, how you accelerate, whether you turn on the seat massaging feature that seriously oscillates the Lucid Air, and even the driver’s weight all affect a vehicle’s range. Plus there are chargers everywhere in California.

The Lucid has a large 113 kWh battery and the Dream R model has a range of 520 miles on 19-inch wheels, so we can only drive 350 miles from Los Angeles to San Francisco, according to the car owner. A $170,000 car does just that: tow straight, drive through traffic, and get a charger if the battery needs juice. As before on the Angeles Crest Highway, Rawlinson in the Air Dream R, Lucid PR and engineering teams were following us and breaking the speed limits (mostly) behind me. We left Lucid’s Beverly Hills showroom at 7 a.m. at 503 mph. I hit the freeway in Smooth mode and set the cruise control to 67 mph. It takes a lot of time.

2022 Lucid Air is quiet, comfortable and luxurious. Smooth mode works fine.
